The Wild Turkey distillery was established in 1869 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
In 1940, when distillery owner Thomas McCarthy went turkey hunting, the bourbon he served to his friends was so well-received that one of them called it "Wild Turkey," which is said to be the origin of the brand name.
The raw materials used include corn from Kentucky and the Indiana Plains, barley from Montana, and rye from Germany.
Fermentation is carried out using a homemade yeast strain that has been passed down for over 60 years.
Wild Turkey 8 Year Old is made using the exact same method as Thomas McCarthy and his friends at the time.
The generous use of rye gives it a bold and spicy flavor.
